If you go to http://support.microsoft.com/winxp and click on the link "What to know before you download and install XP" (middle of the page, just above "solutions center"). That page tells you what you need to know before going ahead. It also has a link to a page that will let you check your PC to see if it can cope with XP.
XP has already had two major updates - SP1, which should be included in the XP install that you buy, and SP2. If SP2 isn't included, you can send for a free CD with it on from Microsoft - it's much too big to download even on a fast connection!

I am currently using Windows ME edition and would like to upgrade to XP. My computer is old. 5 years. I would like to just take off ME and install XP. Can this be done and if so can you tell me how please. I am not very computer savey so detailed steps would be helpful.
