I sent the following message to Joe. Need help, he said to go to this forum. CAn anyone help?
I am a member of your Newbie Club & love it.
I bought Registry for Newbies 01/15/05 & have been digging in it ever since, my my my how you master this is more than a mystery to me.
I can if I am real lucky get my PC to turn on if I'm lucky.
My PC has got to the point after it runs for a while it just starts to slow down to the point I have to reboot to continue. I do quite a bit of posting to safelists w/Snazzy & by manual posts.
I'm stuck on Chapter 7 Backing up the Registry. Can't even get the User.DAT & System.DAT to open using the Find function so I can see what size they are.
I went on & typed "scanregw" into the Run line of the Start menu & it said No errors found that it was backed up today.
I use an extra C drive & back up each wk to it & call it my D drive.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I really don't know which area to post this to and I hope I don't upset the Newbie Club people with this question but I'd like to know what other discussion board is visited quite frequently by this person: jgvernonco ? I've seen that name somewhere before I had a crash and lost everything. I think possibly he or she had a link to another site from a post here at TNC.

If you can remember part of the file name, you can use Windows "Find" (press CTRL and F to open it up). If you can't remember any of it, you'll have to search for all files of that filetype. If it was a Newbieclub ebook, that will be ".exe", so you'll have to search for "*.exe" (without the quotes). Then sort by date (click on the "date" label at the top of te date column), and look for files created about the time of your download.
If you have WinXP, "find" lets you restrict the date to files created within certain timeframes - for example in the last week. This will save some searching.
Another common ebook filetype is PDF - if it's not a Newbieclub book, it may have this filetype.

I have an account with MembershipClient Pro to password protect a folder.
They have provided extra scripts to also password protect a folder, but....we are on our own with these extras.
Question....do I make a new folder in the cgi-bin and upload all the forms for each new folder I want to protect?
Or do I just upload them into cgi-bin even if I have 5 different folders?
I get the product number from them, I just don't quite understand where to put them.
Thanks for your help

I've just started using the free MailWasher http://www.mailwasher.net
(watch that ending - net not com!)
You can delete stuff before downloading, and send out bounce messages so it looks like your email address isn't working.
I know how you feel - the p*rn I've been getting is really bad. If you can trace their "real" email address, you can complain, and they'll have their accounts closed, but I suppose they just start up under another ISP.

It's probably best if you create your site first, then you'll have somewhere to advertise your ezine from, and somewhere for readers to visit to find out more about your topic.
As you'll probaby want sign-up options on your web pages, though, you can start thinking about how you are going to create and distribute your ezine, so you can allow for any sign-up boxes etc in your page design.
By Bayani Luis T. Gervacio on Thursday, July 04, 2002 - 11:15 pm:
I've read many times that to "make it" on the Net you must have a website and an ezine. I'm about to start work on both but need advise on which I should work on first--the website or the ezine?
Or does it really matter which comes first?
Thanks a lot.

If you are using IE 5.5 or higher,
Try this, go to your control panel, Double-click add/remove programs.
Next scrool down to and highlight microsoft Internet Explorer.
Next click the add/remove button, on the next window put a tick in Repair Internet Explorer, click OK.
When finished it will tell you to restart your PC
Hope this helps

I have Internet Explorer and last week I started getting the illegal message pop up and everything would shut down everytime I visited a new site. And I can receive e-mails through Outlook Express, but can't send any. Can't copy and paste. It looks like it's frozen. Dowloaded Netscape and everything is working fine in that browser.
Any tips on how to get IE to work again?

Josh, no that's not what's happening with my login box. I've had that happen in the past, but don't remember how I managed to correct it. Most likely someone else did it for me.
What I was referring to now, is the actual window where I log onto my ISP each time I go onto the internet....that window doesn't close.
The internet connection is made, and I get the little computer icon down on my taskbar, and I can go ahead and do whatever on the internet, but that window remains there till I close it, usually later when I come upon it again.
I'm more curious as to why this is only happening as of late, because it's not that much of a problem to close it, I know. Do you have any idea why it still remains?
By Josh Lowe on Thursday, April 18, 2002 - 05:51 pm:
Dolly, not sure if this is what you are talking about, but tell me if this sounds familiar:
You turn on your computer, and sometimes it will pop up the ISP connection window wanting you to connect.
Sometimes, when you open windows explorer, or a totally unrelated window, it does it again.
Happens several times.
Is this the problem you are describing?
By Dolly Wilson on Thursday, April 18, 2002 - 03:58 pm:
When logging onto my ISP the login box doesn't disappear anymore. I have to keep closing it. It's only been this way since my daughter did some things on my computer, and I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to automatically close.

Most of the time, users do not deal with SYSTEM.INI; however, on occasion, a line in the 386 Enhanced section ([386Enh]) may have to be modified. Sometimes an EMMExclude= statement is added or changed to exclude a section of upper memory used by a new peripheral from the general pool of memory that Windows uses. WIN.INI is another major configuration file read by Windows at startup.
Although SYSTEM.INI was created in Windows 3.x, it is still used in Windows 95/98 and NT primarily for compatibility with Windows 3.x applications.
By Richard on Wednesday, February 06, 2002 - 12:20 am:
SYStem INItialization) A Windows configuration file that describes the current state of the computer system environment. It contains hundreds of entries and is read by Windows on startup. It identifies such things as the drivers in the system, how DOS applications are handled and provides immense detail about internal Windows settings.
The information in SYSTEM.INI is updated by Windows when you change various defaults; however, in order to tweak system performance, the file can be edited with a text editor or a word processor that imports ASCII files.

An "internal stack failure" is a fatal error which means that the operating system has lost track of its next operation. Restarting the computer usually corrects this, otherwise the operating system may have to be re-installed. See stack dump and stack fault.
An error condition that occurs when there is no room in the stack for a new item. This error condition can also occur when other things go awry; for example, a bad expansion board or one that isn't seated properly in the slot can cause erratic signals eventually leading to a stack overflow error message.
By Richard on Wednesday, February 06, 2002 - 12:16 am:
I got this from "Atomica", other than this, I have no idea.
A set of hardware registers or a reserved amount of memory used for arithmetic calculations or to keep track of internal operations. Stacks keep track of the sequence of routines called in a program. For example, one routine calls another, which calls another and so on. As each routine is completed, the computer returns control to the calling routine all the way back to the first one that started the sequence. Stacks used in this way are LIFO based: the last item, or address, placed (pushed) onto the stack is the first item removed (popped) from the stack.
Stacks are also used to hold interrupts until they can be serviced. Used in this manner, they are FIFO stacks, in which the first item onto the stack is the first one out of the stack. See DOS Stacks.
By chazzw on Tuesday, February 05, 2002 - 02:52 pm:
I keep getting an error that says I don't have enough "stack pages". what are stack pages?? It also says to go to system.ini to change the settings. It also says I have 5 allotted...I'm lost...

Do you know where you saved it to? If so, find it, right click on it and delete from the drop down menu. It sounds like it may be in your start up. Click on Start/Run - type in msconfig then OK, click on the start-up tab, look and see if there is a check by whatever the name of the banner is and uncheck it. If it is a program go to start/settings/control panel/ add/remove programs/ search for the name of the banner, click on it, then on add/remove/Apply/OK, then you will have to re-start your computer and it should be gone.

There are a couple ways to do this. I know that Real Jukebox will take files from a cd and write them to disk, but I am not sure what format it saves them in or where on the hard disk. I don't use Real.com products because of how dominating they are, but you may want to give it a shot.
I personally use a program called "AudioGrabber". This program will take the files off of a cd, and create either .wav files or .mp3 files, whichever you choose. This program is a little bit more complicated in that you have to click around in the options before setting it up how you would like.
You can get it from here:
Hope that helps,

is a great guide for internet business info. You can download and read it at your leisure.
Some message boards for web site creators (beginners to experts, all types of sites) are http://www.sitepoint.com/
They have chat rooms and msg boards, as well as tutorials on different subjects.
If you use a search engine you'll find lots of help sites for business - you can use the "Channel Guide" index that they have on their home pages if you find that easier than trying to think exactly what phrase to search for. Many of these sites give details of known scams.
If it's for business, you probably need to go for a domain name and an isp that you pay - get advice on one of the forums I mentioned above as to peoples experience with different services. The sites I've looked at are for the UK, so if you're antywhere else they won't be as useful to you. But there will be lots aimed at your part of the world, where ever you are.
