I have had to do an enormous amout of surfing lately since I am out of a job. On some sites where I have been researching companies, I have clicked on a link, within a general information page for a locale, to a supposed business site and suddenly I am barraged with many new windows opening from obvious porn sites. When I attempt to close them I get even more of the same type of windows opening. I have even had things downloaded without realizing it during this barrage. Is there a way to stop these windows in their tracks from continuing to open or to prevent them in the first place? What's the best way to handle getting all of this trash off of my computer COMPLETELY? Thank you.

There are a couple of solutions to handling the popup windows.
You can download a popup killer application. The one I have can be downloaded for free here:
Be sure to click the download button on the LEFT side of the screen, not the one in the middle.
Just be sure to raise the sensitivity to the highest point. This will take care of about 95% of the pop up ads. However, at times you will have to right-click/disable because it will close things that you want open. It cannot distinguish between auto-opening pop ups, and small windows that you click to open.
However, there is a more effective way of handling it, but it's a little bit more round-about. You can download Mozilla (the browser engine that netscape is based off of) here:
