Does anyone have a recommendation for a program for scanning pictures and text that I can use easily and am able to edit the pictures? What I mean is, to be able to add text easily to the photos. I would like a program that is inexpensive, (even for free), and simple to use, since I am a "NEWBIE."

A free program is IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com - it's fairly simple to use. Open your picture file, use your cursor to "draw" a rectangle where you want the text, and click Edit, Insert Text. It's not so easy when you want to edit the changes you've made.

You can get a free version of Serif PhotoPlus which is good here:

(no catch - they hope you'll pay to upgrade to the latest version, but this will be all you need unless you plan to be a graphics wizz!)
