Hi, about 2 years ago, I bought a laptop computer off of the internet.
It had Windows XP Pro installed on it. I don't use it very often, so I
never really paid any attention, but I used it the other day, & I
can't update Windows. This is what I get when I try: (Error#
0x80072EE2) 'Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot
display the requested page.' So I checked on the error, & did
everything it said to do, to correct it, & none of it worked. I still
can't Update. Could it possibly be that I have a bootleg version of
Windows XP Pro installed, & that's why? If so, what can I do about it?

I know sp2 cant be installed on a pirate OS but some of the other updates should be ok.You could phone microsoft 08706010100 and ask if your os has been registered with them.If not you will have to buy another os if sp2 and some other updates are important to you.A simular thing happened with one of my other computers I got a new os they're not cheap.
